Termites from the genus Odontotermes are known to contain numerous species complexes that are difficult to tell apart morphologically or with mitochondrial DNA sequences. We developed markers for one such cryptic species complex, that is, Odontotermes srinakarinensis sp. nov. from Maxwell Hill Forest Reserve (Perak, Malaysia), and characterised them using a sample of 41 termite workers from three voucher samples from the same area. We then genotyped 150 termite individuals from 23 voucher samples/colonies of this species complex from several sites in Peninsular Malaysia. We analysed their population by constructing dendograms from the proportion of shared-alleles between individuals and genetic distances between colonies; additionally, we examined the Bayesian clustering pattern of their genotype data. All methods of analysis indicated that there were two distinct clusters within our data set. After the morphologies of specimens from each cluster were reexamined, we were able to separate the two species morphologically and found that a single diagnostic character found on the mandibles of its soldiers could be used to separate the two species quite accurately. The additional species in the clade was identified as Odontotermes denticulatus after it was matched to type specimens at the NHM London and Cambridge Museum of Zoology. 相似文献

Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations using gaussian 98 have been performed on hydrogen adsorbed on clusters representing the (110) and (111) surfaces of Cu. Clusters were constructed to model different adsorption sites, and at least two different size clusters were used for each site. On the (111) surface, hydrogen prefers to adsorb in a hollow site, though with the hcp variant being favoured by the adsorption energy, and the fcc alternative by the vibrational frequencies. Abstract Complex network analysis has received increasing interest in recent years, which provides a remarkable tool to describe complex systems of interacting entities, particular for biological systems. In this paper, we propose a methodology for identifying the significant nodes of the networks, including core nodes, bridge nodes and high-influential nodes, based on the idea of community and two new ranking measures, InterRank and IntraRank. The results show the significant nodes form a small number in biological networks, and uncover the relative small number of which has advantage for reducing the dimensions of the network and possibly help to define new biological targets. 相似文献

Background
Continuing efforts in development of non-invasive prenatal genetic tests have focused on the isolation of fetal nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs) from maternal blood for decades. Because no fetal cell-specific antibody has been described so far, the present study focused on the development of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) to antigens that are expressed exclusively on fetal NRBCs.Methods: Mice were immunized with fetal erythroid cell membranes and hybridomas screened for Abs using a multi-parameter fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS). Selected mAbs were evaluated by comparative FACS analysis involving Abs known to bind erythroid cell surface markers (CD71, CD36, CD34), antigen-i, galactose, or glycophorin-A (GPA). Specificity was further confirmed by extensive immunohistological and immunocytological analyses of NRBCs from umbilical cord blood and fetal and adult cells from liver, bone marrow, peripheral blood, and lymphoid tissues.Results: Screening of 690 hybridomas yielded three clones of which Abs from 4B8 and 4B9 clones demonstrated the desired specificity for a novel antigenic structure expressed on fetal erythroblast cell membranes. The antigenic structure identified is different from known surface markers (CD36, CD71, GPA, antigen-i, and galactose), and is not present on circulating adult erythroid cells, except for occasional detectability in adult bone marrow cells.Conclusions:The new mAbs specifically bind the same or highly overlapping epitopes of a surface antigen that is almost exclusively expressed on fetal erythroid cells. The high specificity of the mAbs should facilitate development of simple methods for reliable isolation of fetal NRBCs and their use in non-invasive prenatal diagnosis of fetal genetic status. 相似文献46.

The aerial parts of Lantana camara L. were collected from three different geographical locations: Artemisa (Cuba), Biratnagar (Nepal), and Sana'a (Yemen). The essential oils were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. A cluster analysis of 39 L. camara essential oil compositions revealed eight major chemotypes: β‐caryophyllene, germacrene D, ar‐curcumene/zingiberene, γ‐curcumen‐15‐al/epi‐β‐bisabolol, (E)‐nerolidol, davanone, eugenol/alloaromadendrene, and carvone. The sample from Cuba falls into the group dominated by (E)‐nerolidol, the sample from Nepal is a davanone chemotype, and the sample from Yemen belongs to the β‐caryophyllene chemotype. The chemical composition of L. camara oil plays a role in the biological activity; the β‐caryophyllene and (E)‐nerolidol chemotypes showed antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities. 相似文献

The paper proposes a method for selecting a set of sustainable development indicators which can be used for various sustainability-related tasks, such as assessment of current condition, measure of progress toward specific goals of sustainable development, in general, and sustainable urban development, in particular. The method is based on variable clustering, selecting cluster representative, and multivariate linear regression in combination with experts and stakeholders’ input in an interactive process. The small set of indicators derived from the proposed method was able to account for a significant amount of information from the initial indicator set while effectively assisting stakeholders in making informed decision based on objective quantitative information and meeting their preference simultaneously. 相似文献

BackgroundSubacromial Impingement Syndrome (SIS) is frequently diagnosed, but treatment results vary greatly. It is increasingly reported that SIS symptoms are caused by various underlying mechanisms that need distinctive treatment strategies. We evaluated a set of specific MRI Arthrography (MRA) characteristics that have been related with underlying mechanisms for SIS in the literature, in patients with SIS.MethodsIn 47 patients diagnosed with SIS, MRA characteristics were evaluated and categorized into categories of potential underlying mechanisms: (1) extrinsic: e.g. acromion shape; (2) intrinsic: e.g. tendinosis; (3) dynamic: e.g. signs of glenohumeral (micro-)instability. Control values were obtained from the literature. With cluster analysis, potential patient subgroups were assessed.ResultsIn 17 (36.2%) patients originally diagnosed with SIS, specific other conditions were found, including rotator cuff tears and labrum lesions. In the remaining 30, all had positive signs of at least one of the predefined underlying mechanisms. Patients could be categorized into 2 groups: predominantly findings corresponding with extrinsic/structural causes, or with dynamic/(micro)instability.ConclusionsMRA characteristics in patients with SIS symptoms are heterogeneous and many patients have specific other shoulder conditions causing symptoms. Patients without specific other conditions have MRA characteristics associated with either extrinsic (structural), or dynamic (e.g. micro-instability) underlying mechanisms. 相似文献
